Oscar's Bunny

I finished up my last handmade Christmas present last night - a stuffed bunny in pajamas for Oscar. I wanted to make him a bedtime companion like Little Bear's. Not that he has eyes for anyone but beloved Kanga, but maybe someday. So I set out to make him a bunny that looked like these cuties... here, here, here. And then I made him little pajamas in polka dot flannel fabric that coordinate with the flannel sock monkey fabric of Oscar's new Christmas pajamas.

I'll have to remember in the future, that the crunch of holiday deadlines is not the best time to be trying to design patterns. First of all, he's HUGE. I have to work on my scale! Then, he looked like a donkey in the first iteration. Still kinda does actually. After much tweaking I got him to where I'm satisfied enough. But I really wish I'd had to time to make another one. But that's Oscar's fate - playing with a bunch of prototypes!
I'm glad to be out of the craft room. Today we bake!

Oh. My. God. Oscar has f**king MONK PAJAMAS!!! I can't breathe...
And that bunny is the singularly cutest thing I have ever seen. I love how shy he is with his jammies buttoned all the way up to the very top.

I used a kwik sew pattern for Oscar's pjs. I've had my eye on that toy robot flannel too!! The pattern goes up to size 5 or something. I'd love to make him pjs every Christmas.
Thanks everybody for the love for the donkey bunny! It's helping me forget the disaster I'm creating in the kitchen..

Impressive yet again!
If Oscar hangs on to all those prototypes, maybe one day he'll be able to cash in on your fame. :)
Have fun baking!

My son, Eli, who just turned two on Dec. 7th just saw Oscar's bunny while the picture was loading and yelled out "BUNNY!". He would have said "HEE HAW!" if he had thought it was a donkey. So...there you have it. It is a bunny. Can you believe that in only one year your little man will be talking like that, too?

YES, please consider selling your patterns. I love that idea. Perhaps a series of outfits for each animal? The bunny is adorable.

I KNEW exactly which bunny you meant, before I even clicked the link ...and its been at least...11? years since I sat down with a picture book and child...I loves those illustrations..is it Richard Scarry?...your PJed bunny is perfect!
Posted by: fern | Dec 24, 2004 5:52:27 PM
yep, Richard Scarry, and the ones from the Jingle Bells book are by JP Miller - very similar bunnies!
