leave it to the boy

At every visit to the fabric store I find little surprises in my basket when I go to check out. Things I absent mindedly greenlighted with an uh-huh while trying to find the things I need. Today it was red buttons and silver pipe cleaners for an "ort project". Turns out they were perfect for making invitations to Oscar's robot themed 4th birthday part that I'm trying to pull out of my butt at the last minute.

The boy is having much more crafting luck than I am lately. I should have him finish out the month!

Oh, how cute! Oscar is so creative. I think I am going to have to steal his idea for my kids.

Oscar is just taking his cues from his very talented mother. Great work for both of you (yep -- you're the one who inspired him to think he could do it -- so kudos to you too).

When I was younger my mom ended up buying Snuggle Fabric Softener, because my sister (2 at the time) liked the TeddyBear on the bottle.

Those invitations are turning out really well. Very creative young man you have there.

Once upon a time (1978, actually) Wilton made a super-cool Robot/Spaceman cake pan - you might be able to track one down on ebay! And, really, what household is complete without a secret stash of silvery pipe cleaners? Clearly Oscar's got your back.

I really enjoyed Juniper's Halloween costume. Here's the link in case you need some costume inspiration.

Just a few ideas in case you're at a loss, which I seriously doubt...

You could paint some pasta (assorted types) silver or gold and give the little guys some black paper to design their robots on. You could throw some sequins, rhinestones and bottle caps into the mix...

If you plan on giving out a loot bag perhaps a little lego kit or science related toy would be appropriate. Maybe Oscar could draw a robot on each bag or piece of wrapping paper. You could then stamp the names on.

Good luck.

Oscar is one cool little guy.

I love the silver pipe cleaner. Those are probably one of my favorite crafting tools.

Also, Did I hear you are doing NaBloPoMo? I am and it is beginning to become exausting. How are you holding up? I may have to steal some of your ideas to make it all the way!! Good Luck!

Love it Oscar!!! I get more inspiration from kids than adults :)) Maybe he should start a blog!!

Oh my gosh, I love that he "shops" with you. At least he's occupied while you're browsing, right?
I think our boys still both say "orport" some of the time.
Groovy invites, Oscar!

Like mother, like boy. That is one creative kiddo and one adorable baby! I can't believe she never lost that thick hair she was born with.

We just had a robot party for Mack's 5th. Here are some of the games we did.

1.) "Bag the Alien" - I made some quick ugly doll style felt aliens. The boys had shoot the one they wanted to take home with a nerf "laser" beam.

2.) I stacked several boxes together to make a robot. The boys decorated it and then we took a picture of each inside of it for the thank you cards.

3.) Robot dancing to Mr. Roboto!

I ordered some mini tin robots to hand out as the take home gift. They were a hit!

Have fun!

Wow, those pipe cleaners *are* extraordinary! No wonder Oscar was tempted.

My son hasn't gotten in the business of sneaking things into the cart, but I did once get to the checkout and find some sleep-inducing nighttime cough syrup and a tube of lemon toothpaste in there that I was certain I didn't put in. My son innocently volunteered that he put them in.

All things considered, the silver pipe cleaners are a more fun choice. I'll have to look for those at the craft store.
