delusions of sugarplums danced in her head

I'm going to just proceed with my insanely ambitious handmade holiday plans and pretend like I'm in a Lifetime made-for-the-holidays movie that is going to end with Christmas miracle!

like this becoming a sweater for Phoebe...

these becoming charmingly glittered vintage style stockings for the whole family...

or this doll becoming anywhere near as cute as the sketch for it...

the big finale will also include a kitchen tree covered with cute sugared cookie ornaments, little embroidered ornaments for the kids on my list, thoughtful handmade by me & Oscar teacher gifts, a few dozen cookies and a new quilt to snuggle under on Christmas eve... and all with a knowing wink from the ghost of Christmas past of course.

All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!

That's quite a plan you have! But I think making the plan itself is half the work, so I have no doubts that at least the most important parts will come together.

Quite a list you have going there but all of your projects sound and look delightful.

Posted by: June | Dec 11, 2007 2:35:15 PM

you sound like me! i've got lots of plans, and very little time. but i am sure the doll will be just as cute as you imagined, your dolls always are. good luck!

Posted by: martha | Dec 11, 2007 2:35:53 PM

Your plan sounds so similar to mine! I wish us both much luck and Christmas charms.

Okay, first that doll is definitely going to turn out cute - it's already cute!

Second, good luck finishing all your gifties in time for Christmas! I'll keep my fingers crossed that the Ghost-who-gives-crafters-extra-time-to-finish shows up. : )

i'm having some similar illusions myself! glad to see i'm not alone.

Posted by: julia | Dec 11, 2007 3:12:40 PM

Excellent to see that I am in good company with my way too ambitious plans!

Argh! Me too and I said this year was going to be different. Didn't know I'd be pregnant and this tired. So NEXT year's going to be different ;)

Posted by: Amy | Dec 11, 2007 3:35:44 PM

Yes, me too - so many thing to still get done! And like Amy above me being 30 weeks pregnant, still trying to sell our condo (which means cleaning up constantly after ourselves and our 2 year old) isn't making it easier but yes let's go for it anyway

Posted by: Nancy Cook | Dec 11, 2007 4:23:58 PM

Wishing you much success!!!

Posted by: Leigh | Dec 11, 2007 4:24:58 PM

I know the feeling! Yet, it's better than being in a crafting funk with no idea what to make :) Best of luck! I am sure that everything will turn out great in the end!

You are cracking me up with that opening because I am doing the same thing despite having inadvertently serged the wrong legs together on 5 pairs of pajama bottoms - making walking IMPOSSIBLE ;-)

However, I cheerfully carry on - deciding that it was easier to cut 5 new pairs rather than rip serging. Luckily I had a whole bolt. Tra la la....

Blimey Hillary, i thought i had grand plans ( Mr & Mrs Gnome, a robot - possibly a spaceboy too, a bunny 2 elf stockings and of course cute piggy ornament. Oh yes, it is a wee wonderful Christmas here :o) Good luck to ya!!

Would you please share your magic wand if you get that all to happen?!

Posted by: michelle | Dec 11, 2007 5:57:00 PM

You and me both. I made a list today of the teachers, gift cards it will be. I'm still determined to get my gnomes made, you have to draw the line somewhere!

i could do with a little bit of Christmas miracle as well to get it all done - Did someone steal a week from us?

Posted by: Jodie | Dec 11, 2007 6:48:58 PM

Yes, someone stole a week and disguised it as Thanksgiving! I, too, have a bazillion unfinished Christmas projects. :(

Posted by: Peggy U | Dec 11, 2007 6:54:28 PM

Christmas seems to be getting closer too quickly! Are you doing a simple sweater or a complex pattern? I'm making socks for x-mas. Toe up socks. I'd trade you for your sweater, that could be knit in 2 days with the right pattern!

i love your delusions. they make me feel un-crazy.

Posted by: kristi | Dec 11, 2007 7:03:33 PM

You're actually quite a bit further along than I am. Mine will end with To Be Continued, I'm afraid. Like, "Ummm... here's your gift, or at least part of it. It's going to be a..."

Can't wait to see the doll and sweater.

Is that a copy of Santa Mouse peaking out in the 1st picture? Love that book!

Posted by: coyca | Dec 11, 2007 9:04:14 PM

So fine are my own delusions that I was actually surprised when my daughter told me today, "Exactly two weeks until Christmas!"

Do you think they would agree to celebrate on the 31st instead?

Posted by: purple petunia | Dec 11, 2007 9:15:28 PM

I love this! You are so funny.

Posted by: Jenna | Dec 11, 2007 10:11:57 PM

Happy to know I am not the only one...I am presently staring at a cutting board covered in uncut fabric...where are my elves to cut and pin the pieces together?

Posted by: beetlegirl | Dec 11, 2007 10:31:37 PM

Everything is looking gorgeous!!! I'm sure that your xmas miracle will come and everything will look be lovely and sparkly just in time for the big day...

Posted by: Jodie | Dec 11, 2007 11:20:59 PM

I'm trying to let go of many of my ideas and do more of the fun kid stuff. It's hard, though. I *really* want to make stuff.

Would you mind sharing the name of the drug you are on? Maybe if your readers take it we'll be as productive as you.

And if you have a drug that is behind just a bit of your creativity we'll take that too.

Good Luck!!

If misery likes company you may be pleased to know that I have to knit a sweater for my 6'4" brother by Christmas and have not yet started it.

Posted by: Mama Urchin | Dec 12, 2007 6:46:27 AM

Go Hillary! I'll just live vicariously through your blog.

Is that "Santa Mouse" I see? I still have my tattered copy from when I was little. It's still my favorite.

:)

Yikes, that's a lot to do. I just came by to thank you for the adorable Pig ornament freebie, I am defnitely making one to hang on our tree.

BTW, is that Santa Mouse in your first pic? I have had that book since I was a little girl. All 3 of my kids love that story, it is so sweet. Ooop, I see Lucinda has commented about Santa Mouse too. :-)

HYSTERICAL...i can't wait to hear how it all comes together!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: nancy heard | Dec 12, 2007 9:32:16 AM

I'm starting to wonder if I should consider back-up plans for the home made gifts I've been planning. I'm an absolute blank on what to do for my son's preschool teacher, too.

Posted by: Lil' d | Dec 12, 2007 2:42:50 PM
