four!

We tucked in one tired and very happy boy tonight. Oscar's 4th birthday party this afternoon was a big success. This was Oscar's first official kid party and Tim and I kinda got into it, especially since Oscar's robot love gene finally kicked in. So we had...

a space station constructed out of cardboard boxes and a huge roll of bubblewrap with a little photo op on the side.

control panels printed on adhesive paper to be colored and stuck on the shirts for robot costumes. of course Oscar never got his on. Phoebe wore hers like a good little girl until she started chewing through it.

the snack robots made from melamine cafeteria plates, a paper tablecloth and some markers.

decorating robot gingerbread cookies with glitter frosting and candy

and sparkly robot cupcakes

I think I know why people throw elaborate themed birthday parties for their kids. It distracts you from the realization of how fast it's all going by. Happy birthday baby.

Oh you are so very clever! The melamime tray-snack display- how did you ever think of that!!!!

Wow, you pulled out all the stops on this one. What a ton of fun. Happy birthday, Oscar!

I am completely with you on the elaborate parties. We had a Sweet & Spooky Halloween Tea Party for our daughter (who is currently in kindergarten) and we went nuts! I baked for days in advance and was up until all hours getting everything just right. I still get misty when I look at the picture though...

Makes it all worth it!

you are the best mom ever.

Everything is amazing! I want a Robot party!!! My daughter just had a birthday (2 days before Thanksgiving) and I had to skip the party this year....these pics make me sad I did! Maybe we will have to celebrate her 1/2 birthday this year! I wonder if I could talk her into a robot theme?? :)

Posted by: Nicole | Dec 3, 2007 2:11:34 AM

What love went into all those creations!! I love the cafeteria tray robots! They are so cool. And what child hasn't been happy with a cardboard box before - particularly one made into a space station!!

Posted by: di | Dec 3, 2007 2:17:24 AM

what a lot of work but what spectacular results! Clever you!

Posted by: Marianne | Dec 3, 2007 4:22:45 AM

your creativity never ceases to amaze me!

Posted by: Melissa | Dec 3, 2007 8:44:08 AM

Love the party theme and accents! Bravo! You should send that to Family Fun (Disney) They always have party theme ideas at their site Family Fun.com They post them in their magazine as well. I wish my kids were young again, but I will file this idea away for grandchildren some day. Thanks and Happy Birthday!

Posted by: Marcia | Dec 3, 2007 8:44:14 AM

Ok that is pretty amazing for something you referred to as "pulling out of your butt"! Happy Birthday, Oscar!

Posted by: Jennifer | Dec 3, 2007 8:47:54 AM

Amazing! That space station is delicious. What boggles my mind (from the very exhausted mother of one 6 month old) is how you are able to do this with TWO kids. You are unbelievable!

Posted by: Carolyn | Dec 3, 2007 9:19:46 AM

Happy 4th birthday, Oscar! What a great age to be. It's my favorite preschool age, because you can do so much, and still fit on a lap! I hope it's your best year yet!

Posted by: Heather | Dec 16, 2007 7:07:20 PM

you are a gem among parents.

This is totally without much thought for the logistics of it all but would you fancy doing a kids book?
I have photographed a rag bag of things in my time ( gordon ramsay books/ wonderfoods book/ kids wonderfoods/ wild food books/ ads for guardian and observer etc ).
Now I have a toddler ( single mum sadly ) and this is excatly what I love doing with him, albeit in a teeny space in central London.
If you interested lets chat.
I have a number of contacts with publishers.

you treasure.
