maybe they ran out of fonts?

It seems like all the bloggers want to write books and all the bookers want to write blogs. We're losing Blueprint because Martha thinks all the kids want blogs, not mags? Perhaps Marty has something up her sleeve. MarthaSpace? MarthaTube? I can't wait to download complicated Martha recipes on my Sidekick. Or maybe Martha will twitter us every 10 minutes with a Good Thing? I think she should just stick to making us old ladies happy with gorgeous page-tearing glossies.

Why!???????! This is so wrong! Out of all the magazine I get on import this and Craft are the best, not fair!!!!

I'm sure printing a quality rag like that isn't cheap, but I would have gladly paid *more* for the subscription rather than take it online. I'm still in denial over this one.

I just heard this yesterday (after receiving another plea in the mail to renew my subscription for two more years!). I can't believe it. I finally bought the subscription 2 months ago and, just like MS Kids, she yanks it! All the good ones never last-- is society just interested in People and Good Housekeeping because they don't seem to be going anywhere!!!! I'm pretty mad about this!

i totally agree with you, hillary! i love blogs but magazines are different.

I love this post, just what I was thinking.
Posted by: blair | Jan 3, 2008 3:32:20 PM
Amen I say to you. We who create are tactical and need the pages to turn, the glossy to pet, the angles to inspect. Perhaps it was too much competition for "The Martha Stewart" real magazine??? Bring Back Blueprints
Posted by: coffeechris | Jan 3, 2008 3:33:19 PM
wait a minute - I was a charter subscriber why didn't they tell me this. I just got the lastest one with a note to renew.
Posted by: Meredith | Jan 3, 2008 3:33:23 PM
what's truly disappointing is that this magazine has all of the MSLO organization to support it financially, maybe give it another year to grow in readership before killing it? I'm still more upset about the demise of MS Kids, that was a beautiful magazine.

I agree!!!!

Have you seen Martha's new blog? If it was a little more like Blueprint and less about helicopter rides and how many staff she has it could be a good read. blogs1.marthastewart.com/martha
Posted by: Kristine | Jan 3, 2008 3:42:01 PM
HUH? NOOOOOOOOO! I love this magazine so much. Say it isn't so. :(
Posted by: Amy | Jan 3, 2008 3:42:33 PM
Amen.

word.

They are keeping up the blog, Bluelines. That is one good thing. They solicited on the blog for ideas of what you want to see. I said more DIY projects. I loved their crafts.
Posted by: Cindy | Jan 3, 2008 4:18:02 PM
I was so saddened to hear this news. It is my favorite magazine out right now. At least we still have Bluelines, their blog. It doesn't quite compare to the wonderful tactile feeling of a magazine that you can hold and gaze at over tea at a cafe or on the subway. By the way, the phrase "MarthaTube" made me laugh out loud.
Posted by: Maritza | Jan 3, 2008 4:18:32 PM
I see someone already mentioned this, but thank goodness they are keeping the bluelines.com blog active. It's something instead of nothing, though I am sad to see my favorite subscription go away.

WHAT???????????????????????????? Blueprint is going away??????????? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Posted by: nancy heard | Jan 3, 2008 4:24:33 PM
What?!! I didn't hear about this (until just now...)!! I have been a subscriber since the beginning. I have nearly a full year paid, but won't get the magazine?! What a rip off. I guess I'll have to complain on their blog...

you know, if all those crazy kids could send peanuts to a network and have them return jerico to the airways...well, i say we send blueprints to martha.

that is a good magazine so it's a bummer for sure - but i've realized that blogs totally satisfy any need that magazines used to fill for me. i've not renewed any of them. because, quite frankly, all the inspiration online is SO much cooler and better than the mags. so, maybe it's true?
Posted by: kirsten | Jan 3, 2008 4:51:59 PM
what a cop out...personally, I have no interest in celebrity blogs...I started reading blogs about 4 years ago and the appeal was to learn how other "real life" people live, create, think and escape from the celebrity-driven world we live in.
this is so absurd.
most people who enjoy her mags. are people that love to hold it in their hands and ear mark ideas and re-visit them year after year. personally, I rarely look at her website.
okay. enough.

I liked Blueprint!!! But everyone knows that we like to look at magazines over and over. Plus my DH prints magazines and the largest printer in the US, so keep buying, it pays our bills!!
Posted by: Miss Paula | Jan 3, 2008 7:49:05 PM
I like the website--chock full of ideas. But her blogs have way too much "her".
Posted by: purple petunia | Jan 3, 2008 7:49:06 PM
I agree with your post!!! So sad about Blueprint. House and Garden is gone as well!
Posted by: Leigh | Jan 3, 2008 8:57:06 PM
Amen!
Plus, I am a bit agitated about it because, since the beginning, I had been buying it off the shelf. A couple months ago I decided that it was too expensive NOT to get a subscription. Urrrrrrrgggg.

I watched the "Martha" show that featured "Blueprint Mag" and Martha said that Blueprint would be a seasonal mag. Only being published 4 times a year...like the bridal issue. So, I don't think it is gone forever. But I understand...I liked it too!

You know, I have never heard of this magazine before and I LOVE Martha! I guess I've been missing out... :(
Posted by: Stephanie | Jan 3, 2008 9:52:56 PM
Amen! Sigh...

No,no,no,no,no - I'll take a magazine over a blog anyday....magazines you can go back to over & over, you can rip pages out & make notebooks of recipes & decorating ideas...they are portable & can go outside on a sunny day with you or to the beach, you can lend them to a friend...oh well, I wish MSKids was still around - that WAS an awesome magazine :)

WHA???!!! I JUST FRIGGING GOT A SUBSCRIPTION FOR XMAS!
Posted by: Sarah | Jan 4, 2008 8:06:02 AM
is it a money issue? not enough subscribers? seems that the mag was just hitting it's stride, and after only what- 8 issues? they are killing it?
martha should do away with weddings and food, and keep blueprint and BRING BACK KIDS + BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!
hopefully they will listen to the crowd of loyal blueprint lovers.

The loss of blueprint is wrong. Why can't Blueprint be a blog and a magazine?
Posted by: grace | Jan 4, 2008 11:23:20 AM
I think that's exactly right ... ran out of fonts. Much better explanation than Martha's!
Posted by: Pam | Jan 4, 2008 12:01:20 PM
.. and sad to think it comes down to the cost thing...
Posted by: PJ | Jan 4, 2008 9:55:18 PM
Hi everyone! You know, I had been thrilled when the magazine came out. FINALLY!! I remember thinking, something fun, stylish, and adventurous to read. I devoured the magazine and imagined being some of the glamour girls on the pics, as opposed to my standard 'mommy outfits' with the Cheerios stain. Thankfully we have blogs like Hillary's to keep things fun and our brains going. Hugs to everyone! Liz

here, here!
all I can say is ditto!
what will I take to bed with me when all the mags are gone? sad!
thanks for sharing

Huh. Well, I, for one, tend to prefer "print" magazines for "serious" reading - blogs are fun and I love them, but the way my life is configured right now, if I want to curl up in my comfy chair and read about craft projects and home-stuff in a cozy sort of way, magazines are totally the way to go.
Yes, they're hard to store (I've given up on keeping some magazines but I do keep all the craft-type ones that have patterns I might want to use). But there's just something about coming home at the end of the day and finding a nice shiny new magazine in the mailbox...I'm 38 which I don't THINK makes me an old fogey yet, but for me, as much as I love the online stuff, it doesn't quite have the same thrill as that "real" physical magazine - with pictures you can cut out or recipes you can paste into your recipe scrapbook.

I can live without Blueprint as long as Martha doesn't try to rap again.
Posted by: willownt | Jan 7, 2008 2:00:14 PM
I'm with you here, Hillary. Martha, leave us with our magazines!
Posted by: Grace | Jan 11, 2008 6:42:51 PM
Ooooh I had a rant about this on design sponge too. I think their decision is a huge mistake as EVERYONE I know was buying Blue Print very few were so compelled to by at least the last 4 issue of MSL. I think (this is only me) but canning BP is an attempt to divert readers back to the old mag now that the stigma of Martha's name has slightly lightened. It (BP) was, as I believe a contingency plan in case MSL caved after her incarceration. It was hugely successful and such a sad loss to our much loved living mag. I hope it reemerges one day. Wouldn't that be grand.
