playdate outfit

We have a playdate with a sewing mom tomorrow. This is a new thing for me. I love playdates with sewing moms! Such a good excuse to spend a Sunday afternoon sewing. I made a little top and matching barrette for Phoebe for the occasion.  Phoebe's going to be swimming in this. The first time I made this top I resized it down from the smallest size in the pattern book (100 cm) to be about 70cm and forgot to prewash my fabric. Now, after being through the wash, it's doll sized. So I thought I'd give it another shot. I overcompensated by doing the 100cm size & prewashing and now it's ginormous. Oh well, I think Phoebe can pull it off. And perhaps the matching barrette will be a distraction from the poor fit :)

Oh well! It's really cute, and she'll have grown into it before you know it!

Hi Hillary! I love your blog and just everything you do. I have copied your "wrapped animals". They don't look as good as yours, but my children love them. I really like this top and I would like to make one for my daughter. Is it possible for you to share (or even sell) the pattern?

Darling, as usual.

i hope when i find a house (yes, still looking...ahhh! and we sold our place so it's crazy) i meet some sewing moms

I really love the little clothes and toys and quilts, etc. you make for your family. Since I have two little girls I've used a few of your patterns with great success and much glee!

This little shirt gives me inspiration to use some of the fabric I just found at the thrift store.

Thanks for sharing your talent with the rest of us. Makes life more, well, wonderful.

Completely adorable. The barrette is so clever!

My grandma always says, "on a galloping horse, no one will ever no the difference!" I like that, idea. And when sewing for little ones, it comes in handy to keep that in mind. They don't sit still long.

Very cute stuff, as usual!

So cute! I love how the barrette matches!

That is so sweet! I love the matching barrette.

I think you have the right idea with the sizing. Really big now will turn into kinda big in the spring/early summer. If the size on roomy pieces like this is big enough, a dress turns into a top.

so cute! love that barrette too. lucky girl!

This is a lovely (and simple) pattern! Where is it from? My daughter is just about a 100 and I'm just getting back in the swing of sewing for my kids.

Phoebe will look very cute in her new top and with matching barrette. It's wonderful that you are sewing for your little ones...do you sew things for Oscar too?

As always, just adorable!

Posted by: Jen | Jan 28, 2008 7:55:08 PM

thanks everyone for the nice comments :) she's definitely swimming in it but at least it's not a half shirt like the first one. might need to make a third that's "just right"

claudia - it's not my pattern. it's from a japanese sewing book

dana - if you click through to the first one I made it mentions the book details

ash - galloping horse, love that!

amy k - nope, nothing has popped off yet. I'm using e6000 craft glue to stick things to the barrettes and it's working really well.

angie v - I used to make things for oscar. not so much anymore. boy clothes need to be so detailed and tailored. I'm too lazy!

laurie - I used a covered button kit to cover a button with wool felt and then cut a flower shape out of wool felt. I pushed the tabby thing on the button down flat and glued the button to the flower and then glued that to a press clip barrette. hope that makes sense!
