rocking the vote & barrettes
The barrette-making continues round these parts. I'm justifying it by giving most away to friends' little girls. I bought some alligator clips off ebay and sewing up little felt slipcovers for them is the perfect tv-watching activity. They've kept me busy for the complete Jane Austen on pbs, new-to-us Joss Whedon show Firefly (so good!) on hulu and tonight I'm going to work on some Super Tuesday barrettes while watching election results...if I can figure out how to sew while my fingers are crossed.

So adorable! As usual. I can see that I'll need to add barrettes to the must try list...

Oooooooh, I love those! If I could get away with wearing them at my age, I would.

Oh holy moly, I have some of those little buttony things (have been meaning to paint them up as tiny cupcakes) but the doll-faced barrettes are too cute! Yay Firefly!

What lovely barrettes! I absolutely love the little girl ones in the bottom pic, especially the Snow White-esque one.

I'll keep both my hands with fingers crossed! just in case you have to tie a knot or thread a needle ;).

I delurk. You are one of my faves.
Just the cutest little clippies. After 2 boys I now have a nine month old little gal, but she is still nearly bald... I actually tried a clip recently but it fell off of her 4 strands of hair as 2 yr old brother tried to rip it out.
I will live vicariously through your posts. At least I have plenty of time to whip some up.
Oh, and Firefly? Love it.

So adorable! Oh, I need a baby girl! (Isn't that awful?! I need a baby so I can make little tiny outfits and barrettes! I'm hanging my head.)

We are big Firefly fans..Kaylee is my fave...so sad that it had to end...only one season, the only complete season of anything we own! "Serenity" rocks!!
WE love the way they swear! I love to knit and watch!

ah! well, if you make too many and run out of friends... I'm sure Astrid would volunteer to help you out (only teasing, but it was the first thought that popped into my head!!)

If you decide to delve into the world of ribbon barrettes, you might want to look at http://www.theribbonretreat.com/custom/free_projects.aspx (the bug ones at the bottom left are so cute).

Those little girl barretts are amazingly cute. Maybe if I make some like that my girls will keep the barretts in their hair. I'm amazed at how "Hillary" you can make even little things look.

I love the little face barrettes! I am also in love with The Complete Jan Austen series. I keep re-watching Persuasion while I knit. I think tonight made viewing number six.

Oh my goodness my husband and I just finished watching firefly. Make sure you watch Serinity the movie at the end. I thought it was really good. Now we have moved on to Wonderfalls. I find it very funny...I'm not sure my husband thinks it is as funny as I do. LOL.

I have to say that my husband (just dating at the time) and I saw Serenity and I was really opposed to seeing another stupid scifi movie. Boy, I was singing a different tune when it was over. I LOVED the movie. Then when the series was finally available on DVD we bought two copies and gave one to my dad for Christmas of 2006. This is one of the few series/DVDs I'll watch over and over again. Well, that and the A&E P&P - I can sit and watch both from start to finish in one sitting.
I love your barrettes! felt is a fabulous medium for little things like that.

I'm happy you're enjoying The Complete Jane Austen!

Very cute! I haven't seen the wooden doll face used before. Clever!

Ditto - love those wooden doll faces, and love your blog, too!

Another fan of Firefly here. The only bad thing about it is there are too few episodes!
Posted by: Sarah | Feb 6, 2008 5:44:18 AM
Oh, you have done it again! Those little faces are so amazingly beautiful!
Posted by: Melissa | Feb 6, 2008 7:54:58 AM
Those are really wee wonderfuls, absolutely precious.

We sat down & watch the entire series one weekend! I'm not a huge sci-fi fan, but anything with Nathan Fillion has my attention. Waitress & Slither are also good.

I've been reading your blog for sometime...I LOVE what you do. I must say I'm thrilled to learn that you also like Jane Austen and Firefly. The two genres completely clash with one another - but, they are oh, so enjoyable! Happy watching and crafting!

Had to give a shout out for Firefly!! So glad you like it.

These are too cute! What a funny coincidence that I just got back from the craft store. I was shopping with a friend to buy things to make clips for our girls!
My favorite is the flower button one!

I am a Jane Austen fan as well! Your barrettes are so whimsical and adorable!!!!!I know what you mean about crossing your fingers while watching Super Tuesday..it looks like I'll be crossing my fingers a while longer...

I just made some barettes - just used ribbon though. Not that my daughter would leave them in her hair...

I LOVE the little doll face barrettes. I've been making felt barrettes lately, too, and I agree, it is the perfect TV-watching activity. Some nights I just don't feel like starting a new project or working on a big project, and barrette-making is a perfect solution. They're super cute too.

Love, love, love them. The little face ones are just gorgeous!
Posted by: Rosalind | Feb 7, 2008 3:02:16 AM
Love the barrettes. I've got to make sure my girls don't see them or it will become yet another new project.
Loved Firefly! Too bad it was so short-lived.

I thought that since I lurk around your site all the time, going "Oh that is so cute! Oh I must make that!" That I would sign in. I have really been enjoying the Complete Jane Austen on PBS as well. Thanks for the crafting ideas to do while watching TV (it's not vegging if you are crafting while you watch, right?

I have been crazy making felt covered barrettes and hunting down the snap clips on ebay. I was thinking of covering buttons and putting those on snap clips. I have 3 boys and have a girl now and swore I would never go girly, but guess what? It happens!
Posted by: Traci | Feb 7, 2008 7:51:29 PM
Those are adorable! As are the Jane Austen movies. I thought Northanger Abbey was especially fantastic. And I am so excited to see Colin Firth again this Sunday night, in his white ruffly shirt!

I love the barrettes...are you going to post a tutorial or pattern? I love it! Puts my blog to shame :)

Cute, cute, cute barrettes! I wish my wee one had more hair. I just love little hair clips.
I love the smock you made too. My baby is only a few days older than yours and she's already standing up unassisted! I'm so not ready for this early of a walker!

They are so cute!!! All really lovely. You are so talented!

I finished my own sets of clips last night- just in time for Valentine's Day presents for my daughter's daycare class (3-6 yr olds). The moment I read your post I KNEW I had to make them (the flower/button ones)!! It took me a while to come up with an equally cute thing for the boys in her class. So 12 hair clips and 17 alligator clothespins later I can finally relax. I really enjoyed making those clips and will make more for my daughter again very soon- maybe next time I'll make the ones with the little faces. I just love your ideas!! Thanks so much for the inspiration.

I'm a little late in saying this, but I LOVE Firefly! And the barrettes, of course. *B
